I have a BSC in Electrical Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand, which they hesitantly gave me after I almost destroyed their high voltage laboratory equipment – I think they didn’t want me around for another year in case this time I did blow it up!
I have always enjoyed those things – although one cannot talk much about it these days ever since 9-11. Lets just say that life out in Africa was open to a whole lot of possibilities that today’s kids are excluded from. And rightly so! Good thing my firstborn is a little girl – I don’t think she will be taking after my ways, even if she could!
I love making stuff. Not at all creative but show me what, or better yet something that is broken and all I see is a challenge! It comes from the days where you had to make do and keep things going – we didn’t grow up in a throw away society. Even here in the UK I will undertake repairs to my cars that any “European” would consider a total waste of time – and it probably would be if I didn’t enjoy it so much. Lets just call it my hobby then. Good things to have those!
But one needs time for hobbies – in very short supply – I am lucky there though – my cars have a habit of breaking down so I have no choice but to get my hands dirty
I suppose I should mention that I helped to found MediaVision. The other passion of my life – it is really great when you couldn’t think of anything better to do all day that to go to work – Some days are just filled with excitement at the opportunities presenting themselves. Anyway, speaking of which, I really do need to work some magic on some other fronts – I have just been told that our blog is broken and needs fixing!
